2019-20

2019-20

teams/201920.jpg

Like the previous season, Saints preparations were thrown into turmoil with the departure of manager Oran Kearney 'by mutual consent'.
He was replaced by League Cup winning captain Jim Goodwin.
Again a big change of squad was required with nine new players arriving, including a return for former hero Kirk Broadfoot,

A headline grabbing signing came in the shape of Oan Djorkaeff, son of French world cup winner Youri. Sadly he never lived up to the excitement and made just 6 appearances.
Saints hovered around the bottom three places most of the season and the January transfer window saw another big turnover in the squad.
On the 11th March 2020 second bottom Saints faced bottom club Hearts in Paisley knowing that defeat would send them to the foot of the table. A 48th minute goal from top scorer Jon Obika sealed a 1-0 victory and lifted Saints to 9th place.
This turned out to be the final match played in Scottish senior domestic football as the season was suspended and then subsequently ended by the Covid19 pandemic that swept the world at the time.

With football facing an uncertain future Saints took the decision to cut the playing squad and 7 first team players were released along with the five loan players when their contracts ended.
Most notable was 2018 championship winning captain Stephen McGinn. Goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky was offered a new deal but declined the offer and left to seek new challenges.
