David van Zanten joined Saints in 2003 from Celtic.
He made his debut at that start of 2003-04 and quickly became a regular in the top team.
In 2005-06 he played his part in the double winning team, ensuring his place in the history of the club.
He left in 2008 for Hibs, but things did not work out and after short spells at Hamilton and Morton, he returned to Saints for the start of the 2010-11 season.
He picked up where he had left off, as a first team regular and broke through the 300 games mark in February 2013.

In March 2013 he reinforced his place in Saints folklore as a member of the team that brought the Scottish League Cup back to Paisley for the first time ever.

This win secured his third winners medal in the stripes, equalling Hugh Murray's record set in 2006.

At the end of season 2013-14 David left the club when his contract ended.
In total over the two spells he played in 332 matches and managed 8 goals.
But for his part in the double winning season and the League Cup win, he will always be a legend at St Mirren Park
